Case:
State v C.T.
Charges:
Felony Domestic Assault by Strangulation & Malicious Punishment of a Child
Outcome:
NOT GUILTY on all charges

C.T. was charged with strangling and assaulting his 12-year old daughter. He was adamant that he was absolutely innocent. Prior to retaining our office, a judge set C.T.’s bail at an unfairly high level. As a result, he was stuck in jail while he fought his case. Even though he could have taking a plea deal and been released from custody, C.T. refused to plead to something he did not do.
At trial, we argued self-defense, that C.T. used a reasonable amount of force to stop his daughter from assaulting him. Additionionally Minnesota law allows a parent to use reasonable force against a child to restrain or correct their behavior. The trial lasted a full week. After a long period of deliberation, the jury found my client NOT GUILTY of both charges against him. He was immediately released from jail and returned to his life.
